Beth Sholom Temple Religious School Class Placement & Advancement

Judaic Studies placement is made according to your child's secular grade. Hebrew placement/advancement is made through proof of proficiency. If your child has had Hebrew in another congregation, his/her Hebrew level will be determined through evaluation. Advancement to subsequent levels of Hebrew will only be made with the passing of appropriate exams.
Beth Sholom Temple Religious School Expectations

Beth Sholom Temple is dedicated to providing your child(ren) a well-rounded and sound Jewish-Hebrew Education. The people who are providing this education are volunteers within our community and are doing this very important job out of love for the children and learning. We educators at Beth Sholom expect you, the parents or guardians, to support our endeavors in providing a quality education program for your child(ren).

The basic tenets of the rules for Religious School include respect for the teacher, fellow classmates, and the property and surroundings. Discipline will include verbal warnings, extra assignments to be completed at home, and may include separation from the group. In severe cases, the child or children may be sent to the Principal or Vice-Principal for intervention. If a child is sent to the Principal or Vice-Principal, the parent or guardian will be notified. While attending Religious School your child(ren) will also be participating in Sanctuary Services. Behavior expectations in the Sanctuary during Religious School are the same as when attending Weekly Services. Students are to be respectful of the Sanctuary, Teachers, the Rabbi and Cantor. All male students are required to wear a kippah upon entering the Sanctuary. In addition to classroom behavior, children are required to act with a certain degree of decorum within the building. They are to be supervised at all times by a parent/guardian, the teacher, or another responsible person. There is to be NO running, horseplay, or throwing of objects within the Temple Building, unless as part of an adult directed activity. Children should not touch or play with signs or objects on display. If your child(ren) is/are playing with or jostling the displays, including playing roughly near the tables, running, throwing objects, and other prohibited behavior, be aware that other congregants, unaffiliated with the school, may address the issue until a parent/guardian or school personnel can assist. Please, discuss these guidelines with your child or children. If you have any concerns, please see the Principal.
